What to Expect During a Reflexology Session

Reflexology sessions at Barefoot Holistics are designed to feel calm, comfortable and restorative.
Treatments are gentle, individualised and adapted to the person in front of me rather than following a rigid routine. Many clients use reflexology as an opportunity to slow down, rest and reconnect with their body in a quiet, supportive environment.

Whether you are completely new to reflexology or returning for ongoing care, sessions are designed to be approachable, grounded and responsive to your comfort level.

Before your session

Your first appointment begins with a short discussion about your health history, lifestyle, current symptoms and what you are hoping to gain from treatment.

This helps guide the overall approach to the session and allows treatments to be adapted to your comfort level, preferences and individual needs.

Appointments run for approximately 60 minutes, allowing space for both consultation and treatment without feeling rushed.

During the session

You will remain fully clothed, with only shoes and socks removed.

Sessions involve working through specific reflex areas of the feet using varying levels of pressure and therapeutic touch techniques. Treatments are generally gentle and rhythmic rather than forceful.

Guided breathing or grounding techniques may be incorporated to support relaxation and body awareness during the session.

The treatment space is intentionally quiet and calming, allowing time to slow down and settle comfortably into the experience.

A calm, comfortable environment

Sessions at Barefoot Holistics are designed to feel grounding and supportive from the moment you arrive.

Treatments may include:
  • a warm foot cleanse using hot towels
  • certified organic creams infused with botanical essential oils
  • blankets and a heated far-infrared mat for comfort during colder weather
  • gentle breathing or grounding techniques to help you settle into the session
  • personalised aftercare suggestions where appropriate

The overall experience is intentionally quiet and restorative, creating space to pause, unwind and reconnect with your body without pressure or urgency.

  • sleepiness afterward
  • increased body awareness

Some reflex areas may feel more sensitive or tender than others, though treatments are always adapted to your comfort level.

After your session

Clients often describe feeling more rested, relaxed, clear-headed or physically lighter following reflexology.

For some, the effects are subtle and build gradually over time. For others, the experience of simply slowing down and receiving focused therapeutic touch can feel significant in itself.

Drinking water, resting where possible and paying attention to how your body feels afterward may help support recovery and integration following treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to remove clothing?

No. Reflexology is performed fully clothed, with only shoes and socks removed.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing is recommended so you can relax easily during the session.

Will the treatment hurt?

Reflexology should not feel aggressively painful. Some areas may feel more tender or sensitive than others, but pressure is always adapted to your comfort level.

What if my feet are very sensitive?

Many clients with sensitive feet are surprised to find reflexology feels calming rather than uncomfortable. Treatments are always adapted to your comfort level and pressure can be adjusted throughout the session.

If you have particularly sensitive or ticklish feet, simply let me know before we begin so the session can be tailored accordingly.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the individual, their goals and how they respond to treatment over time.

Can I talk during the session?

Some clients enjoy chatting during treatment, while others prefer to rest and tune-in to the experience. Sessions are adapted to whatever helps you feel most comfortable and relaxed.
